Hidden hydrogen: Does Earth hold vast stores of a renewable, carbon-free fuel?
Last month the magazine Science published an article on “white hydrogen”, the natural form of H2 that is found in underground deposits released via fracking, and in the air. Also the current German weekly „DER SPIEGEL“ reports on white hydrogen and describes it as an invisible treasure, hidden deep in the earth's rock: natural hydrogen, a source of sustainable energy that has been completely underestimated up to now. According to estimates, around one billion cubic meters of hydrogen are produced in deeper layers of rock worldwide every year.
