Increase in costs for hydrogen transport network, minister Hermans reports
In a letter to the Dutch Parliament, Dutch Minister Sophie Hermans highlighted that Gasunie has revised the cost estimate for developing the national hydrogen transport network, with expenses now projected at €3,8 billion, compared to the initial estimate of €1,5 billion. This new estimate remains uncertain, as spatial procedures for the transport network are still ongoing and many costs are yet to be incurred. Gasunie attributes the cost increase to several factors, including limited opportunities for reusing existing gas pipelines, as well as rising prices in the supply chain and higher material costs.
It is currently unclear how both parties will respond to these developments, but the minister states that "The hydrogen transport network is essential for the development of the sustainable hydrogen chain”. We agree!
