Plans for LOHC plant and second ammonia cracker in port of Rotterdam

Tank storage company Vopak is starting a joint venture with German hydrogen company Hydrogenious in storage, transport and supply of hydrogen via the hydrogen carrier benzyltoluene. In addition, VTTI (Dutch mother company of our WIC member ATPC), Essent and Eon have plans to build a large ammonia cracker in the port of Rotterdam.

With the construction of a LOHC plant in Rotterdam, Vopak and Hydrogenious aim to decouple 1.5 tons of hydrogen from benzyltoluene every day. The LOHC technology developed by Hydrogenious will be used. The companies have established the joint venture LOHC Logistix for this cooperation.

In addition, VTTI, energy company Essent and Essent's parent company Eon have signed a letter of intent for the construction of a second large ammonia cracker in the Port of Rotterdam. The cracker is to convert green ammonia into green hydrogen. Plans for a first ammonia cracker in the port of Rotterdam were already announced last December.
