Turning the North Sea in one large green electricity and hydrogen hub
The North Sea Summit in Ostend (the successor to the Danish Esbjerg Conference - May 2022) has the ambition to make the North Sea the new green energy hub of Europe.
On Monday 24 April, Port Ostend hosted the European Summit, which was going ahead at the initiative of the Belgian federal government. The North Sea Summit; a summit between the heads of state and government of Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom. Together with 6 Belgian companies and federations (Elia, Fluxys, DEME, Jan De Nul, Belgian Offshore Platform and Agoria), the Port of Ostend hosted the CEOs of 100 top European companies active in renewable offshore energy. During two roundtables, they joined national and European policymakers in a debate on the future of the North Sea.
By working better together, accelerating and focusing on innovation, the European offshore industry can strengthen its global leadership position and contribute faster to an energy system that is more sustainable, affordable and independent. Renewable hydrogen has an important role to play in these ambitions.
