Hydrogen-powered cars in the Benelux
H2Benelux
2017 -2023
H2Benelux is approved within the European program 'Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) - Transport Sector'. Within the project a number of partners (Shell, PitPoint, Colruyt and Rijkswaterstaat) are working together with the authorities to start the development of hydrogen refuelling stations for passenger cars and a real life trial with hydrogen cars. In this way, the Benelux can keep up with developments in Germany and France.
In concrete terms, 8 hydrogen filling stations are being built within the 'H2Benelux' project: 4 in the Netherlands (Region Amsterdam (2), Utrecht, Rotterdam), 3 in Belgium (Region Leuven, Liège, Ghent) and 1 in Luxembourg.
Hydrogen cars will be used at each hydrogen filling station; in this way a hydrogen testing ground will be set up at several locations in the Benelux.
The results of these tests are translated into a roadmap for the development of hydrogen infrastructure in the Benelux for 2025 - 2030.
The role of WaterstofNet
WaterstofNet developed the H2Benelux project idea and submitted it. WaterstofNet is coordinator of the project and organizes the content-based and financial reporting and communication of the project.
Outcome
A real life trail was conducted with hydrogen cars in captive fleet in the Benelux.
