Fluxys kicks off Belgium’s hydrogen pipeline network

3, 2, 1 start! Fluxys has officially launched the construction of the first phase of Belgium’s hydrogen pipeline network. Appointed as the country’s ‘Hydrogen Network Operator’ in April 2024, Fluxys is developing an open-access hydrogen transport network to support the growing market. In the port areas of Antwerp and Ghent, as well as the corridor between them (from Kallo to Zelzate), new hydrogen pipelines will be built using multi-purpose technology, similar to recent natural gas pipelines. The first section is set to be operational by 2026, with further expansion aligned with market development and supported by government mechanisms to mitigate investment risks in the early stages.
